What is a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde system?
An electronically adjustable exhaust system for Harley-Davidson, Indian, Victory, Suzuki M1800 and Honda Goldwing 1800 motorcycles.

What does the European Type approval & CARB approval mean?
Our exhaust systems are tested and developed according to the highest European and American standards and guidelines. Our systems comply with the highest required standards in:
- Sound levels (decibel)
This means that it is a fully street legal system and that it complies with European and CARB legislation and laws.
Do I need to get a separate type approval once I have a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde on my motorcycle?
No. Once you have purchased a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system you will receive a type approval card which matches the number on your exhaust system. The number on the type approval card also corresponds with the motorcycle number in your papers.
Does a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde system need maintenance?
The only maintenance you need to do on your Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system is the cleaning of the exhaust like you would do on your original motorcycle exhaust system. No special maintenance is required for a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust.
Is it necessary to Tune my motorcycle when installing a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system?
No it is not necessary as Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde exhaust systems have been thoroughly tested with the respective motorcycles.
Do I lose performance when I drive with a closed valve?
When the valve is closed you will not lose performance. With the valve open an increase in performance of +/- 5% can be realized. (May differ per motorcycle brand and/or model). When you have a tuned motorcycle the increase in performance can be up to 15-20%.
What is the difference between the Blackbox and Smartbox option?
The Blackbox: a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde control system which fits on all motorcycle brands (within our product range) and models.
The Blackbox has two different modes:
1) Automatic Mode (Valve is controlled by the motor management, and is speed dependent)
2) Closed mode (Valve is closed at all times)
The Smartbox: A Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde operating system which fits only on Canbus models.
1) Automatic Mode (valve is closed at idle, valve is controlled by the motor management, and is dependent on speed, gear and RPM)
2) Automatic Mode (valve is open at idle, valve is controlled by the motor management, and is dependent on speed, gear and RPM)
3) Closed Mode (Valve is closed at all times)
A service mode is added to the Smartbox system for testing purposes (dealer only). The legal Mode Switch has a LED light which indicates (according to color) in what mode you are riding your motorcycle.
Can I install a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde system myself?
No. Only officially certified mechanics who have been trained by the Jekill and Hyde Company are allowed to install a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system. This way we can ensure the quality of the installation and function of the exhaust. US systems are exceptions herein as these systems are not homologated for the European market.
Do the different endcaps provide a different sound?
The damper is responsible for 90% of the sound created. So the endcap has a minimal influence on the actual sound of the exhaust system and can be easily exhanged for another.
Is it possible to buy an exhaust system for a motorcycle that is not yet in the product range of the Jekill and Hyde Company?
The Jekill and Hyde Company is continuously expanding her product range. If our exhaust systems are not yet available for your motorcycle brand and or model, you can stay up to date about our product development through our website.
